Two realities of moving a pet from Trivandrum

One: Trivandrum is the last major city before Kanyakumari. Beyond here, the peninsula ends. That means every long-distance pet move from Trivandrum goes north — there is no other direction. Kochi is 200 km away, Bangalore roughly 700, Chennai 750, Mumbai over 1,500, and Delhi NCR around 2,700. These are genuinely long-haul drives, and most of them run over two days with an overnight halt at a pet-safe facility. The routes north use NH-66 through Kerala or NH-544 through Tamil Nadu via the Palakkad gap, and the routes east toward Madurai cross the Western Ghats at Aralvaimozhi or Shencottah. All of these need planning around traffic, monsoon, and ghat sections.

Two: Trivandrum's inner roads are genuinely narrow. Unlike Delhi, Bengaluru, or even Kochi, the city's core — from East Fort through Palayam to Vazhuthacaud, Pattom, and Kowdiar — has notably narrow streets, tight parking, and low-clearance junctions. Add the temple precinct around East Fort and Padmanabhaswamy, which closes for processions during Aaraattu and other major temple festivals, and the city has very specific pickup windows. From a Kowdiar or Sasthamangalam address, we usually schedule early-morning pickups — before 7 AM — so the vehicle can move through the narrow belt quickly and reach the NH-66 bypass without idling. From the Technopark or Kazhakkoottam belt, access is easier and timing is more flexible.

Kerala's two monsoons affect both realities. The southwest monsoon (June–August) brings heavy rain to the Western Ghats, which can cause landslides on the Aralvaimozhi and Shencottah ghat sections. The northeast monsoon (October–November) brings a lighter but steady second spell. Waterproof crate liners and covered loading apply across roughly six months of the year. We monitor Kerala State Disaster Management Authority and Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority advisories daily through both windows. On red-alert days, pickups are rescheduled at no cost.
