Three things that shape every Jammu pet move

One: Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir. From November to April, the entire state government machinery — the Secretariat, the High Court, the police headquarters, and dozens of attached offices — operates from Jammu. In April, it moves back to Srinagar for the summer months. This is the Darbar Move — the largest annual administrative migration of any Indian state, and it happens twice a year like clockwork. Thousands of government families, bank officers, and service staff relocate with it. If your dates fall in the Darbar Move window — roughly the first two weeks of November and the last week of April — book early. Our Jammu slots fill up faster during those weeks than at any other time of the year, and vehicle availability tightens across the entire region.

Two: NH-44 is the only road to the Valley. Every pet that travels by road between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley passes through the same corridor — the old Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, now NH-44. It climbs through the Shivaliks past Udhampur, Katra, Ramban, and Banihal, and now crosses under the Pir Panjal through the Banihal tunnel. There are no alternates. Landslides on NH-44 are common from July to September and again during the winter snow, and the highway can close for hours — sometimes a full day — when a slide blocks the road. We check National Highways Authority and J&K traffic advisories every morning before confirming any pickup that involves the highway. If a closure is active, we reschedule at no cost.

Three: pilgrim seasons add heavy traffic. Amarnath Yatra runs from roughly late June to August and brings lakhs of pilgrims through Jammu and up NH-44 toward Pahalgam and Baltal. The Katra road — which carries Vaishno Devi pilgrims year-round — gets especially heavy during Navratri and the summer months. During these windows, the Katra bypass, the Udhampur stretch, and the Jammu Bypass all slow considerably. For pickups inside Jammu city itself, this has little effect. For long-haul departures toward the Valley or toward Katra, we plan extra time and often schedule departures very early morning to clear the pilgrim corridors before traffic builds. Waterproof crate liners and covered loading apply through the monsoon, and pickups are rescheduled at no cost on days when a highway advisory is in effect.
