Two things that shape every Solan pet move

One: Solan is the Mushroom City and the City of Red Gold, and those two identities sit alongside Asia's oldest brewery and a UNESCO World Heritage railway line. The city's most famous institution is the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research at Chambaghat, which was set up in 1983 and gave Solan the nickname "Mushroom City of India." The district is also one of Himachal's largest tomato producers, which is why it is called the "City of Red Gold." But Solan's industrial history goes back further than mushrooms. The Mohan Meakin brewery — one of the oldest in Asia — was established here in 1855, and the equipment used at the plant was brought from England in the 19th century by Edward Dyer, who recognised the quality of the local mountain water and climate. The brewery became the foundation of Solan's industrial identity long before the mushroom research centre opened. On the transport side, Solan sits on the Kalka–Shimla narrow-gauge railway, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, and the town's railway station is a stop on the line. For pet moves, the brewery belt and the Chambaghat research corridor carry steady commercial traffic on weekdays, and pickups from those areas are best planned outside the shift-change hours. The Kalka–Shimla rail option is also a genuinely scenic long-distance route toward Shimla, though it is slow and the narrow-gauge parcel service has limited space for pets — we will tell you honestly whether it suits your pet's route.

Two: Solan sits on one of the most landslide-prone stretches of highway in India, and the monsoon here is genuinely severe. A study conducted by researchers from Kurukshetra University, Banaras Hindu University, and other institutions found that nearly 60% of the Solan–Shimla stretch of NH-5 falls under moderate to very high landslide susceptibility zones. The area predominantly falls under Seismic Zone IV, which makes it susceptible to earthquake-related hazards as well as landslides. Around 48 landslides were mapped along the stretch in the study. The Parwanoo–Solan section has seen particularly severe damage — in one monsoon, the stretch received 426% excess rain, and cloudbursts in the vicinity caused flash floods and massive landslides. The National Highways Authority of India has since installed slope drainage systems at 83 vulnerable points along the 85-km Kalka–Shimla section, and the state has been working on slope stabilisation between Parwanoo and Kaithlighat. Even so, the underlying geography has not changed: the Shivalik terrain, steep slopes, and heavy monsoon precipitation make this a genuinely difficult corridor.
