Purnia Junction connects the city to the East Central Railway network, with direct trains toward Katihar, Bhagalpur, Patna, and beyond, and the older Purnia Court station handles local services. For years, long-distance pet moves had to start with a drive to Bagdogra or Patna for air shipping. That changed with the opening of Purnia's new commercial airport, which now connects the district directly to Delhi and Kolkata and saves the six-to-eight-hour drive to Bagdogra that was previously unavoidable.
