Why Nellore pet moves work differently from any other coastal Andhra city

One: Chennai is only 170 km away — that changes what a "long-distance" move even means here. For most Indian cities we serve, the nearest major metro is 500 km or more, and every long-haul move involves a multi-day road trip or air shipping. Nellore is different. Chennai is close enough to be a same-day drive — usually under four hours on NH-16, and often faster in the early morning. That means a pet move from Nellore to Chennai is a single-day job, not a multi-day one. And for destinations beyond Chennai — Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata — the pet can be driven to Chennai Airport on the same day and flown out, without the overnight halt that would be needed from Guntur or Vijayawada. Tirupati Airport is an alternative gateway at roughly 135 km, but Chennai is the more common connection point for most routes.

Two: the NH-16 corridor is one of the smoothest in South India. NH-16 — the old NH-5 — runs along the Andhra coast from Kolkata to Chennai, and the Nellore stretch is a well-maintained four-lane highway. It carries both local traffic and long-haul movement between Chennai and Vijayawada, and it moves quickly outside peak hours. This is a genuine advantage over the winding hill highways we plan around in the Northeast, or the landslide-prone corridors of Sikkim and Mizoram. The main bottleneck is the entry into Chennai itself — the Poonamallee bypass and the Chennai Outer Ring Road can slow considerably during the morning and evening peaks. We plan departures from Nellore so the vehicle clears Chennai's outer approach before 7 AM or between noon and 3 PM.

Three: the Penna river and the delta humidity shape local timing. The Penna (also called the Pennar) flows through Nellore, and the city sits in the Krishna–Penna delta belt, which keeps humidity close to 70–85% most of the year — even in winter. From April to June, temperatures reach 42–44°C, and the combination of heat and humidity is harder on pets than the equivalent temperature in a drier inland city. We plan pickups in the 5:30–7:00 AM window through those months, with the cabin pre-cooled and ventilated before loading. During the monsoon from June to September, the Penna can swell after heavy upstream rain, and low-lying areas along the river occasionally flood. We check Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority advisories through the monsoon, and pickups near the river are rescheduled at no cost on red-alert days. Waterproof crate liners and covered loading apply throughout the season.

And one small geographic fact worth knowing: Nellore is close to India's primary spaceport. The Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota is about 80 km east of Nellore, sitting on the barrier island that separates Pulicat Lake from the Bay of Bengal. Pulicat Lake itself — the second-largest brackish water lagoon in India — stretches along the coast just south of Nellore's district boundary. This means the coastal belt around Nellore is not just beach and fishing villages; it also includes protected lagoon habitat and the buffer zone around the launch centre. Road access in the immediate Sriharikota area is restricted, and we plan any pickup on the eastern coastal roads — such as Mypadu Road and the Krishnapatnam Port approach — with that restriction in mind. For pets being relocated to or from coastal hamlets in this belt, we schedule pickups at accessible points and never attempt to cross into restricted zones.
