Two things that shape every Kurukshetra pet move

One: Kurukshetra is a pilgrimage city and a university town at the same time, and its layout reflects both — a sacred tank-and-temple core surrounded by planned sectors and a student belt. The city's identity is built entirely on the Mahabharata. This is where the Kurukshetra war was fought, and where — at Jyotisar — Krishna is said to have delivered the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. The sacred geography of the city is organised around its tanks: the vast Brahma Sarovar, which is one of the largest man-made bathing tanks in Asia and draws pilgrims for a dip on auspicious days; Sannihit Sarovar, associated with ancestral rites; and the smaller tanks and tirthas scattered across the town. Around them sit the temples, the Bhishma Kund at Narkatari, the Krishna Museum, the Science Centre, and the Panorama and Mahabharata exhibition grounds. The old town of Thanesar, next to the railway station, is the historic settlement of the region — dense, narrow-laned, and layered with the archaeological site of Harsh ka Tila, associated with Emperor Harshavardhana. In complete contrast, the newer parts of Kurukshetra are planned: sector-based residential blocks, wide roads, and the campus and residential belt of Kurukshetra University, one of the oldest universities in Haryana. A pickup in the temple lanes around Brahma Sarovar and a pickup in a sector house or a university flat are two completely different operations. So we confirm the exact location at booking, use smaller vehicles for the temple-surround and Thanesar lanes, and time pickups around the university and school rush.

Two: Kurukshetra lives by the pilgrimage calendar and the university year, and both fill the city at predictable times — while the climate sets hard limits on travel in summer and winter fog. The single biggest event in the city's calendar is the Gita Jayanti and the International Gita Mahotsav, held every year in December on the banks of Brahma Sarovar. It is one of Haryana's flagship cultural events, with weeks of programmes, exhibitions, craft fairs and dignitaries, and it brings huge crowds into the city from across India and abroad. Alongside it come the regular pilgrimage peaks — Somvati Amavasya, solar and lunar eclipses, Kartik Purnima, and the bathing days that draw large numbers to the sarovars. Pehowa, about 25 km away, is another major pilgrimage centre associated with ancestral rites, and it sees its own crowds through the year. The university adds a second rhythm: admissions in July–August, exams, convocation, and the constant flow of students, faculty and research staff moving in and out of the city and its hostels and rented flats. And the climate is genuinely extreme in both directions. Summer afternoons cross 44°C in May and June, with dry loo winds and dust that can make open travel hard on animals. Winter brings the opposite problem: December and January nights fall to 3–5°C, and the dense fog that settles over the Indo-Gangetic plain in those weeks can shut down NH-44 and delay every train out of Kurukshetra Junction for hours, sometimes for a full day. We therefore keep waterproof crate liners and covered loading ready for the monsoon, reschedule at no cost on red-alert days, run summer pickups early to beat the heat, plan around the Gita Mahotsav, the bathing days and the university admission season, allow extra time through the winter fog, and build in a buffer so your pet is never rushed at either end of the journey.
