Three things that shape every Kurnool pet move

One: the Tungabhadra is at Kurnool's doorstep, and it can rise fast. The city sits on the south bank of the Tungabhadra, and the Konda Reddy Fort — the historic Vijayanagara-era structure that dominates the old town — overlooks the river crossing that has defined Kurnool for centuries. Two road bridges now carry traffic across, and most long-haul routes use the newer NH-44 bridge. Upstream, the river is controlled by the Tungabhadra Dam at Hospet in Karnataka, and releases from that dam during heavy monsoon years have historically raised the river sharply and flooded low-lying stretches on the Kurnool side. Between June and September, we check Tungabhadra Board and Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority advisories every morning before confirming any pickup that involves the river belt. On high-release days, pickups in the low-lying areas — parts of Johrapuram, Budhawarpet, and the river-side stretches of Old Kurnool — are rescheduled at no cost. Two: NH-44 runs straight through the middle of Kurnool — and that's a real advantage. The old NH-7, now NH-44, passes through Kurnool as part of the Hyderabad–Bangalore corridor. Hyderabad is roughly 210 km north; Bangalore is about 360 km south. This is genuinely one of the smoothest north-south corridors in India, and it means a pet move from Kurnool to Hyderabad or Bangalore can be done as a same-day drive — no overnight halt needed. Beyond those cities, the corridor continues toward Nagpur and Delhi to the north, and toward Salem and Madurai to the south. The main constraint is inside the city itself: NH-44 passes through dense commercial stretches — around B Camp, the bus stand, and the old town — and these slow considerably during the morning and evening peaks. We time the departure so the vehicle clears the Kurnool bypass before 7 AM or between noon and 3 PM, then joins the open highway for the long haul.

Three: Orvakal Airport changed the air picture for Rayalaseema. Kurnool Airport opened at Orvakal in 2021, roughly 25 km southeast of the city, and it is now the only airport in the Rayalaseema region between Hyderabad and Bangalore. Flights connect to Bangalore, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam, with occasional services to other South Indian cities. For pet parents moving to or from cities further afield — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata — the practical options are still Hyderabad (210 km) or Bangalore (360 km), because those airports have the fuller flight networks. But for direct South Indian routes, Orvakal saves the long drive. We handle door-to-airport transport to Orvakal, IATA-compliant crate fitting, and cargo terminal handover. Because Orvakal is a small airport with limited daily flights, we plan pet shipping slots with a wider buffer than we would at a major metro.

And one historical footnote that still shows up in today's addresses: Kurnool was once the capital of Andhra. From 1953 to 1956, Kurnool served as the capital of Andhra State — the precursor to today's Andhra Pradesh — before the reorganization of states merged Andhra with Telangana and shifted the capital to Hyderabad. Many of the government buildings from that era are still in use, including the old collectorate and the court complex. The British-era military camp designations — B Camp and C Camp — are now ordinary residential neighbourhoods, but they remain the standard way of describing those parts of the city on any address.
