Two things that shape every Junagadh pet move

One: Girnar drives the town's calendar, and every major pilgrimage reshapes traffic for days at a time. Girnar — the highest peak in Gujarat at 1,145 metres — sits directly above Junagadh, and the city has grown at its base for over two thousand years. The rock edict of Ashoka at the foot of the hill is one of the fourteen major edicts carved by the Mauryan emperor in the 3rd century BCE, and the same hill carries Jain temples on its summit and the Uparkot Fort with its stepwells on the lower slope. Pilgrimage to Girnar is not seasonal — it is continuous — but three events swell the numbers dramatically. The Lili Parikrama, the annual circumambulation of the mountain, brings lakhs of walkers onto the 36 km route around Girnar over several days, closing or narrowing many of the approach roads. Maha Shivratri draws a large overnight pilgrimage up the 9,999 steps to the summit. And Kartik Purnima falls in the same window each November. During these days, the roads around the Talaw Darwaja, the Girnar foothills, and the older bazaar core around Kalwa Chowk slow to a crawl. We do not schedule pickups from the immediate Girnar approach lanes during these peaks, and for pickups in the wider city we plan for early morning or between 2 PM and 4 PM. Two: the forest belt around Junagadh is lion country, and the road planning here is unlike anywhere else in Gujarat. Junagadh is the gateway to Gir National Park — the last home of the Asiatic lion — which begins roughly 60 km to the south, and the wider Girnar and Gir forest belt extends across the district in every direction. Sasan Gir, Talala, Veraval, and Somnath all sit on the far side of that forest, so any long-haul move to or from the coastal belt runs through wildlife country. Forest highways here are active wildlife corridors: lions, leopards, and deer cross the road, especially at dawn and dusk, and the road toward Sasan Gir and Talala is controlled by forest department rules with speed limits and no-night-driving restrictions on several stretches. Our practice is straightforward: forest sections are driven in daylight only, at controlled speeds, with extra breaks, and we never schedule a departure that would put a pet on a forest road after dark. The same region is also India's Gir cow country — the Gir breed originated in this belt, and the dairy economy around Junagadh is built on it — and the roads connecting the gaushalas and dairy farms carry their own traffic pattern. Waterproof crate liners and covered loading apply through the monsoon from June to September, when the Girnar hills bring heavy rain to the district, and pickups are rescheduled at no cost on red-alert days.
