Two things that shape every Jorhat pet move

One: Jorhat is the tea capital of the world, and that shapes the roads, the distances, and the way pickups are planned. The Tocklai Tea Research Institute, established here in 1911, is the oldest and largest tea research station in the world, and the surrounding belt — Cinnamara, Barbheta, and the estates stretching toward Sivasagar and Dibrugarh — is one of the oldest continuously cultivated tea landscapes on earth. This shows up practically in two ways. First, the city is spread out rather than dense — Jorhat has no single tightly packed commercial core the way a coastal city does, and residential neighbourhoods are separated by open land, gardens, and estate boundaries. That means a pickup route that looks short on a map can be longer on the road. Second, every long-distance departure runs through tea country. Whether you are heading west toward Sivasagar and Guwahati or east toward Dibrugarh, the highway passes continuous estates, and the roads through them are narrow, unlit at night, and often used by slow-moving estate traffic. We plan departures in daylight only wherever possible, and we build in extra time for the estate-road sections rather than treating them as fast highway.

Two: the Bhogdoi and the Brahmaputra sit on either side of the city, and the airport is small. The Bhogdoi river runs through Jorhat itself, and it has a real history of flooding during heavy monsoon — the river rises fast when the surrounding hills drain into it, and low-lying stretches on the town side can be affected for hours or days. The Brahmaputra is a short drive north, and Majuli — the world's largest river island — is reached from Jorhat via the Nimati Ghat ferry crossing. For pet moves that involve Majuli or the north bank, we plan around the ferry schedule and, during monsoon, around the periods when the Brahmaputra is too high for regular ferry service. On the transport side, Jorhat's airport at Rowriah has a limited flight network — mostly Kolkata, with some connections. That means most long-distance pet moves from Jorhat connect through Guwahati (roughly 310 km west) or Dibrugarh's Mohanbari airport (roughly 140 km east), whichever the destination actually requires. For very long routes, we often drive the pet to Guwahati and fly from there, because the flight network is broader and the air-shipping options are more frequent. We check Assam State Disaster Management Authority and Brahmaputra flood advisories every morning through the monsoon, and on red-alert days we hold departures and reschedule at no cost.
