One: Chittoor sits at the tri-junction of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and in this town the border is not a line on a map — it is the reason the market exists, the reason the traffic is what it is, and the reason the paperwork matters. Most Indian towns sit inside one state and look outward. Chittoor sits on the edge of one state and looks in three directions at once. Tamil Nadu is roughly 30 km away — Vellore, Ranipet and Katpadi are all closer than most of Andhra's own towns — and Karnataka lies to the west, with Kolar and Bengaluru's northern fringe within easy reach. That geography has made Chittoor a genuinely important border market town, and it shapes the street system in ways that matter for a pet move. First, the old town and bazaar quarters — Gandhi Road, Church Street, Bazaar Street and the lanes around the old commercial core — are dense, working, trading streets with shops spilling onto the road, loading activity through the day, and nowhere easy to park. Pickups there need a small vehicle, a very early slot before the market opens, and a pre-agreed handover point on a wider road. Second, the established residential quarters — Greamspet, Thotapalyam, Reddigunta, Murakambattu, Kongareddipalle, Mittoor, Gollapalle, Kotapalle and the lanes off Bangaru Street — are more open and mostly workable, though older sections still have narrow stretches. Third, the market and loading belts, which in Chittoor are a category of their own because of what this district grows. Fourth, the highway frontages — NH-40 toward Bengaluru, NH-69 toward Tirupati, and the Palamaner Road, Tirupati Road, Vellore Road and Madanapalle Road — which carry continuous heavy traffic including produce trucks, granite carriers and interstate buses, and where stopping is difficult at the best of times. And fifth, the wider district, which behaves very differently from the town: Palamaner, Bangarupalem, Gudipala, Yadamari, Penumuru, Gangavaram, Puthalapattu, Irala, Thavanampalle, Somala spread across the plains; Kuppam, Ramakuppam, Santhipuram and Baireddipalle sit on the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu sides of the district; Madanapalle, Punganur, Chowdepalle, Nimmanapalle, Kambhamvaripalle, Rompicherla, Kalikiri and V. Kota climb toward the Horsley Hills and the Madanapalle plateau, where the elevation gives some relief from the heat; and the villages along the Tamil Nadu line have their own cross-border rhythms. Two: Chittoor is the mango and tomato capital of Andhra and it sits in Rayalaseema, so the harvest calendar and the dry heat both decide when a pet can travel. Start with what this district actually grows, because in Chittoor the agricultural calendar is the town's calendar. This is India's mango country — the Chittoor mango belt is one of the largest and most celebrated in the country, and through the season the district's orchards, packing sheds, ripening units and market yards run at full tilt. The district is equally famous for its tomatoes — the Madanapalle and Chittoor tomato markets are among the largest in Asia — and for sugarcane, groundnut, pulses, mango, tamarind and silk, with a substantial granite quarrying and processing industry and an established industrial estate in and around the town. What that means practically is that the market and loading belts are busy for long stretches of the year, produce trucks move in and out through the night, and the roads to Madanapalle, Palamaner and the Tamil Nadu border carry heavy goods traffic. So we plan pickups in the market belts for early morning, before the loading starts, and we route around the busiest loading yards. There is also a particular local fact worth knowing: this district is home to the Punganur cow, one of the smallest cattle breeds in the world, a dwarf humped breed from the Punganur area that is now protected and prized as a heritage animal. Alongside it, the district has a strong livestock, dairy and poultry economy — including a large poultry and hatchery belt — which means the veterinary and animal health network here is unusually well developed, and local pet owners generally keep their records in excellent order. Then the heat and the weather. Chittoor is in Rayalaseema, the dry upland region behind the Eastern Ghats, and it is genuinely one of the hottest parts of Andhra Pradesh: April to June is 40–44°C, dry, dusty and wind-driven, and the south-west monsoon largely fails this district, which is exactly why Rayalaseema has such a long history of drought and why water supply here is taken seriously. The rain that matters is the north-east monsoon from October to December, and in this belt it is erratic — some years it barely arrives, and in others it comes down hard enough in a few days to flood the tanks and the low ground. For a pet move that means summer pickups before dawn, a pre-cooled cabin, water carried for the animal, and shorter legs between stops. It also means that any riverside or tank-side address in the district should be checked for ground conditions after a heavy spell. On the transport side, Chittoor railway station sits on the Chennai–Bengaluru main line, giving the town direct rail connectivity toward Vellore, Katpadi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Tirupati, Hyderabad and Coimbatore; NH-40 and NH-69 link the district toward Bengaluru, Tirupati and the coast; and Tirupati Airport at Renigunta is about 80 km away, with Bengaluru and Chennai airports both within practical driving range for the right carrier. Because the town sits so close to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, a large share of what look like major interstate moves are actually short — Vellore, Katpadi, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ranipet and Tirupati are all quick runs — and we price and plan them accordingly while still handling the interstate paperwork properly, because a three-state region means documents sometimes need to be right for more than one jurisdiction. One more thing worth knowing: the district was reorganised in 2022, with Tirupati district carved out of its eastern half, so if your address is in the Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Sullurpeta or Gudur belt, tell us — it changes the district and the route. And because Chittoor is on the pilgrimage road to Tirupati and Tirumala, the highways fill heavily around the festival and darshan calendar, so we plan departures around those windows. One local advantage: between the district's livestock and poultry economy, its veterinary infrastructure, and the strong presence of animal husbandry services across Rayalaseema, vaccination records here are usually in good order — and we verify every document before departure.
