Two things that shape every Aligarh pet move

One: Aligarh is split between a planned, spacious university city and a dense, historic old city — and the pickup plan changes completely with the address. The Aligarh Muslim University campus and the adjoining Civil Lines were laid out with wide, tree-lined roads, open compounds, and a calm, orderly street grid. Pickups here are straightforward: a standard cab or van can reach the door, and there is usually space to park and load calmly. The same is true for the newer residential colonies along Dodhpur, Jamalpur, and the GT Road belt. But the old city — Upper Kot, Lower Kot, Sarai Rahman, Shamshad Market, and the lanes around the Jama Masjid — grew organically over centuries, and the streets are genuinely narrow. Shops spill out, two-wheelers park at random, and a large vehicle often cannot get within a hundred metres of the door. The lock-making quarters, for which Aligarh is famous worldwide, sit in similarly tight lanes, often mixed with small workshops. For those addresses, we use smaller vehicles, plan pickups for early morning or outside market hours, and arrange a crate handover at a pre-agreed nearby road. We also confirm at booking whether the address falls inside a restricted or gated pocket near the university or the fort, because that alone can add time to a pickup. We never assume a route that works in Civil Lines will work in Upper Kot.

Two: Aligarh sits squarely on the Delhi–Kanpur corridor and experiences some of north India's most extreme weather — both of which dictate when a pet can travel. The city is a major stop on the Delhi–Howrah railway line and on the Grand Trunk Road (NH-19), and the Yamuna Expressway is easily accessible via Mathura Road, making road and assisted-rail moves practical to Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Agra, Kanpur, and Lucknow. But the weather is a serious planning constraint. The December–January fog in the Doab is among the thickest in the country — visibility on the GT Road and the expressway collapses, and trains through Aligarh Junction run hours late. We build buffer into every winter schedule and shift highway departures to late morning once the fog burns off. The peak summer from May to June, with temperatures touching 44–46°C, means 5:30–7:00 AM pickups and a pre-cooled cabin before loading. And the monsoon from July to September, when low pockets waterlog and humidity spikes, means waterproof crate liners, covered loading, and free rescheduling on red-alert days. On top of that, Aligarh’s cultural calendar matters: during Eid, Shab-e-Barat, and the Urs at the Dargah, the old-city belts see heavy crowds, and during the university’s convocation and festival weeks, the campus roads get busy. We plan pickups in those areas for early morning or outside event windows. One local advantage: with the university’s veterinary facilities and a strong network of private vets, most pet parents here already keep vaccination records and health certificates ready, and we verify every document before departure.
